PREOPERATIVE WIRE (HOOK) PLACEMENT IN THE BREAST

It is required in cases where the decision is made to surgically remove the lesion detected by mammography, ultrasonography or breast MRI. In cases where the lesion is very small and cannot be found on hand examination, it allows the surgeon to easily find the diseased tissue during the operation thanks to the inserted wire. Thus, the duration of the surgery is shortened. Complications that may occur during surgery are reduced and normal tissues are less damaged.

PREOPERATIVE WIRE (HOOK) PLACEMENT IN THE BREAST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is any preparation required?
For the operation to be performed after the marking, no preparation is required other than the preparation already made. However, if the procedure is to be performed under MRI guidance, the preliminary preparation required for a normal MRI examination should also be done.
What is the process?
The area to be biopsied is cleaned and sterilized. A very thin wire is placed in the diseased tissue with the device where the diseased tissue is best seen.
Depending on the method used, the procedure takes 20 to 30 minutes.
How will I feel during and after the examination?
Marking wires are very thin and generally do not cause any complaints. Sometimes there may be little pain.
